Cees Braakman (1917-1995) was born in the Netherlands. He began working for Pastoe when he was just 17. On a visit to the United-States he was influenced by the design innovations of Charles & Ray Eames, particularly their use of bent plywood. Upon his return toUMS Pastoe, he designed a series of functional pieces utilizing bent plywood. From He was the head of the Pastoe design department from 1945 -1978.
